We interviewed Moon Nymph, a Dutch webcam model currently living in Germany, who was happy to share with us some of her stories about working in the adult industry.
How long have you been working in the adult entertainment industry, and how did that start for you?
I started doing some escort work around 2013 because I got curious and wanted to try something new. This was not really for me, but I always stayed interested.
At the end of 2020, I started with Camming.
I wanted to start a new life and moved to Germany. I did not know the language and during Covid, there were not many options for me to work. So I thought I would try it out and it went waaay better than I could ever imagine!
What was your biggest challenge getting started in this industry?
The beginning was very hard for me. It was a big learning curve!
I did not know anything about laptops or programming. I did not know anything about lights, cameras or sound. I did not know anything about social media… I felt very alone and had times where I would sit in front of the camera for hours without anybody talking to me.
I struggled a lot with my confidence and was not sure about anything, but you learn a lot in these times. I did not yet feel comfortable with explicit camming and I had to think about things to do without talking. So I would lay on a bed with a mirror behind me to show my ass and I would just colour in a colouring book.
My biggest challenge was streaming on the weekends because during the week, I took care of my kids.
How has working in porn changed you as a person or affected the way you see yourself?
I have a lot more confidence thanks to my audience!
I was very insecure about my breasts but because of all the love from my fans, I feel way better about them! Now I have a stable income and I feel very confident that I can take care of myself and my kids! It is amazing how much love and support people give me!
How has your work affected your daily life and relationships with family and friends?
I am way stronger and can say “no” a lot better!
I do need to say that I don’t have so much free time anymore, but that makes me more creative and be more productive with the time I do have.
How has your work affected your view of society or perspective of porn in the context of the world today?
I have a much lighter view on porn.
I used to be less comfortable but now I have learned there are different kinds, like sensual and ‘reality’ porn.
What do you think is the most important issue facing the industry today? What can we do?
Payment problems. There is so much negativity around porn that it makes it hard for sex workers to work at all… All the problems around Mastercard are very worrying. I am afraid that because of this, porn will always be viewed as something negative…
We should normalize sex work more!
What are your thoughts about the future and continuing evolution of the adult entertainment industry?
I am very excited for what the future will bring, thanks to the world wide web and beautiful platforms like Chaturbate or Peach and Fansly. We can connect with our fans all over the world, work safely from home, and be our own boss. I can only imagine how it will go from here.
What do you wish you’d known about the adult entertainment industry before you took the plunge?
There is a real community in this world, and it is so much fun!
What is the most important piece of advice you would offer someone just getting started in the industry?
Take your time! Keep going! …and get a good microphone!
Our society has a lot of opinions about sex work. Tell us something about your work that would surprise the lay person who doesn’t know better.
Most of the time, I am dressed, make weird noises, silly faces and real connections with people! They are more my friends!
Have any surprising stories to share? Just one or two. Make us laugh or cringe, whatever you want. 🙂
I once had to sneeze on cam because of allergies, and my Lush came out!
My cat attacks me 9 out of 10 shows! She loves all the fringes on my lingerie or she just wants to cuddle… but during sexy time, she needs to go!
