We interviewed Marla Maine, a 26 year old Financial Dominatrix based in sunny Los Angeles, California.
Marla started working in the industry back in January 2020, and says her biggest challenge so far has been finding new subs.
“I’m still new and learning as I go. I think the biggest challenge has been finding new subs. There’s a lot of time that goes into promoting yourself and a lot of wasted conversations.”
Sex work, in particular financial domination or “findom”, often requires a thick skin. Marla Maine is no exception. She says,
“I was raised to be a good person and do good things and worry about what people would think of me but as I continue my sex work I’ve built a tougher shell and I realize people are here to see me be unapologetic and confident and it feels great!
I think once I opened the door of posting myself online it built my confidence a lot, and I think people can see that even in my vanilla life.”
When prompted about her personal life, Marla says her friends have grown closer since she started working as a dominatrix online.
“I haven’t communicated much about It with family, but with friends I think it’s given them the opportunity to grow closer and be more open about intimate subjects with me.”
The best part? Money and praise.
The most positive thing to come into Marla’s life since beginning her journey as a financial dominatrix, she says, has been “the quick money and the praise I receive from all different kinds of people.”
Marla Maine sees herself creating safe spaces for sex workers down the road.
“I could see myself still contributing to the industry but more from a branding standpoint. Maybe creating safe places to create content. A collab workspace for sex workers. I want female sex workers to feel like they can speak freely about their work and be their own boss!
In response to the stigmas associated with the online sex work industry, Marla says her content is not all about the sex.
“My content is all of me. When you subscribe to me it’s not just my body. I show my personality as well. I also offer a GFE (girlfriend experience) which allows me to connect with a sub and we get to know each other. I’m allowed to be goofy and sexy. I think people want to see that there is a real human that they’re watching.”
A bit of wisdom for those just getting into this type of work, Marla says:
“Ask yourself if you really want to do this. Because once you start, your content is out there. Be prepared for all potential risks and do your research about what steps you have to take in order to succeed.”
