I’m always on the lookout for fun new costume wigs and I recently picked up a new one from Amazon. It came in the mail yesterday, so I decided to record myself taking it out of the package and trying it on for the first time!
Please pardon the terrible lighting. I figured I couldn’t very well go back and do it over again since then I wouldn’t have been taking it out of the package and trying it on for the first time. 🙂
It’s important to note that costume wigs have a tendency to not quite look like the photos until they “get settled.”
I’m planning a much more thorough guide to shopping for costume wigs online, but thought this would make a good introduction.
Hello! I’m Rachael. And this is a wig that I just got in the mail. So I thought I’d make a quick video just to show the basics, like how to take it out of the plastic bag.
So hopefully this isn’t too squished.
It’s in the mesh. You wanna keep the mesh, because you wanna store it in the mesh. Take it out. Take out the paper inside.
And we’ll just shake it out, give it a little run through with the fingers and try to make it look hopefuly not terrible.
This’ll be fun. This one didn’t come with a wig cap but I had one from another time. Enjoy this.
I have short hair so arguably I could maybe get away without wearing a wig cap but my bangs more often than not end up showing underneath.
So I haven’t trimmed this at all, so this is probably going to be horrible.
But I’m just gonna take it so you can see inside. This is the front of the cap where the bangs are and you have these straps.
You can do that [adjust them] before you put it on, or after, it doesn’t really matter. I always have difficulty doing it after so I kinda do it before and then I’ll adjust it after.
Then we just line it up with the hairline and pull it on and shake it back and oh yes! I think it looks darling. I can’t see myself but I know this is hideous.
Oh my god! Okay yeah, so let’s pull it back a little bit. Some wigs are hit or miss, but I might be able to use this for something. Here we are.
This one isn’t actually that bad for straight out of the package. It’ll take some time to collect itself after being en route from China for several weeks.
[I said China, but this one actually just came from Amazon. Oops! It’s still a valid point, though, as costume wigs tend to need a bit of time to come back to life after being in the packaging.]
Thanks for watching!
